Early automatic embroidery machines were able to create multiple stunning designs by receiving information from a simple paper tape known as a "jacquard" the principle was quite simple.
The tape was fed from one spool to another where a series of punched holes were tracked by a reader placed between the spools. On detecting the position of each hole the reader would transmit a corresponding move to the sewing heads.the holes were punched in such a way as to enable the creation of any design in multiple colours and a range of stitch patterns.
This process of converting graphics into stitched designs was known as "punching" today the principles are similar, except that the information is now passed to the sewing heads by high power computer, as you would expect this method is much faster but to some extent the physical input remains high, and great skill is still required to achieve perfect embroidery designs.
This process is known as "digitising" fortunately at badger we have such skills, and therefore can offer a quality service at incredibly competitive prices.
